On the topic of #GamerGate: My Promise to you

Ugh, I really didn't want to have to write this article, but it seems like it's pretty much compulsory at this point.

Coming Soon...

I've got something big coming up in July!

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Whoa! Something new!

I just added my Twitch.tv stream as an additional page to Treasure Bin.  Whenever I'm playing a game I can stream, I will probably be doing that.  It might be fun, it might be boring as all get out.  But either way, I'm up on there!

Also, I'm going to have some big news coming up in the next month or so, something big that I've got planned.  Stick around, and I promise you'll like what you see!

Back from the Grave!!!

So, I've been silent for a while now.  I've been busy with a lot on my plate for a while.  Now that things are slowing down again, I plan to start writing some more!  I have a rant planned for Wednesday, a review of Aliens Colonial Marines within the next week, and a super awesome import review coming up soon!  As always, plan on the "post-anime detour" rant about all the awesome stuff that happened.  That post should be up by the end of April, as the convention runs the 19th through the 21st this year.

Also, I'm going to include some more "nostalgia" reviews in the near future.  Retro games that may be gone, but are certainly not forgotten.  Stay tuned!

It's alive...

Announcing: Reader Contest!

So, I'm going to be closing on a house this Wednesday.  As such, I won't have nearly as much time for writing articles as I used to.  I'm going to schedule a few reviews for the next couple weeks, but I won't have time to work on the Top 5 lists.  So to fix this, and in celebration of hitting 10,000 page views last month, I'm going to have a little contest.

For the month of June, I'll post a Top 5 from my readers every Thursday for the entire month.  Send me your Top 5 lists about anything gaming related with a short blurb for each item.  This can be your Top 5 favorite games, your Top 5 games in a genre, your picks for bad boss fights, anything goes.  Send them to treasure.bin.comments@gmail.com with "Fan Top 5" in the subject line.  If you have pictures in mind for your list, attach them to the email.  Otherwise, I'll dig up photos for you.

I'll post the best lists every Thursday.  Let's see what you've got!

I just now realized that I've hit the 5000 page view mark.  It's a small milestone, but thanks for visiting me here.

To many more 5000 posts!

New Feature! Quick Links to Amazon!

I've set up a widget on the side of my blog, with quick links to all the games I've reviewed.  From here on, I will also include a link in the review.  You may now return with your regularly scheduled life.

Introduction: Opp1123

Greetings, it is I, the infamous 'guinea pig' girlfriend. I will be posting a review later on next week for Assassin's Creed and eventually a review to look into how the Sims developed from the initial game to the most recent game(s) on PC, Nintendo DS, and gamecube.

To give a little background on myself I studied Philosophy with minors in Psychology and English Literature in college. I hope I will be attending graduate school in the future for psychology. Much of this background heavily influences my opinions and perspectives about gaming and other issues.

Genres: sandbox, RPGs, MMO, racing, action/adventure
Consoles: PC, XBOX360, PS2, Gamecube, Nintendo DS
Games Recently Played: Assassin's Creed, Katamari Damacy, World of Warcraft
If you are interested in checking out any of the others games that are in my library here is my raptr profile

If you're curious about the gamer tag I constructed it from the Fibonacci sequence which is a mathematical number that can be found in nature (ex. flower).

Face Lift!

I'm making some major changes to this blog. Namely, I'm removing the $9.99 and under description, discussing gaming topics beyond simply video gaming, and I'm going to make more posts in general. I'll talk about issues pertinent to the gaming industry, alternate game formats, and other similar topics. I'll also bring my girlfriend in as a "guinea pig" of sorts, for additional feedback and testing.

All in all, I think you'll like the new changes. Especially since I've been away for so long.

Reviews in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .

Being the first post for my blog, I'm going to take a moment to explain what I do and how this works.

My goal is to find games on the cheap and review them, so you can decide when to use your hard earned dollars on the real gems. All titles will be $9.99 or less in a store, $19.99 or less after shipping on ebay. I'll note where I purchased it, any specials I used to drop the price lower, and I'll post an ebay query for those that like to buy online. If applicable, I'll include a scan of the cover art so you know what to look for. For all games, assume that they're being played in the original console. I'm not going to be playing PS1 games in a PS2 or XBOX titles in a 360, for instance. If I do, I'll note it and any compatibility issues I run into.

I do have a day job, so this is something on the side to do for fun. My goal is to have one review a month at the minimum, more if I can. I'm already in the process of writing my first review, I'll have it posted really soon.

Parental involvement in children's gaming is a very important issue to me. As such, I'll make sure to include a section in each game for parents of children, covering ESRB ratings, and links to other resources as applicable.

Also, if you have any comments on my reviews, suggestions for games to review, I have an email address set up for comments. send all comments to treasure.bin.comments@gmail.com and I'll do my best to respond to as many of them as I can.
